Join us in support of Katerina's Army

Katerina was first diagnosed in August of 2016. 8 years old; it was devastating news. She would be insulin dependent. There is NO CURE. She has Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). It was overwhelming. We didn't know what this meant. It has changed our lives.

It has been six months now. It means waking up in the middle of the night to give her carbs if her blood sugar is too low, or to inject insulin if her blood sugar is too high. It means a never-ending multitude of finger pricks and insulin injections. It means no one understands unless they experience it themselves. Worse yet, it means to always worry that you may lose your daughter.

With T1D, a person's pancreas stops producing insulin-a hormone essential to turning food into energy. If you have T1D, you must constantly monitor your blood-sugar level, inject or infuse insulin through a pump, and carefully balance these insulin doses with your eating and activity.

Living with T1D means there are no days off and there is NO CURE. But there is HOPE.

As a family we swore to help fight for those afflicted with T1D and battle for a cure. Katerina's Army was born!

Katerina is a sweet, intelligent and beautiful girl. She will grow to be a wonderful person. In fact, after visiting the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami, and meeting their scientists, she declared that she wanted to be one herself. She wants to help create a world without T1D for the millions of children and adults living with this disease.

By donating to or joining Katerina's Army and the DRI team today, you'll help fund research to improve the lives of everyone challenged by T1D. Their scientist are working around the clock to find a cure. No amount is too small.

With your support, DRI will turn Type One into Type None.
